ANNUAL 5x7 SHOW AT ARTHOUSE AT JONES CENTER
MASKS IDENTITY OF WALDEN'S PAINTINGS
Austin, TX, April 15, 2010 – Valerie Walden will be among the hundreds of recognized artists with
strong ties to Texas participating in Arthouse at the Jones Center's 11th annual Art SPLURGE
Exhibition on May 13, 2010. The show has been one of the most successful and entertaining
fundraisers in Austin, Texas.
None of Ms. Walden’s paintings will be identified. In fact, none of the artists will be. All art work is
donated. Each piece measures 5 x 7 inches and sells for $100. Each is presented only by number. Only
when patrons purchase the work of art, do they discover the creator. This format encourages spirited
identity speculation early in the evening, and brisk maneuvering when the actual sale begins.
This is Ms. Walden's fourth year to participate. She commented, “It's all about art and it's a fun time.
I'm won’t drop any clues that would allow my paintings to be recognized in advance. But, I will say that all
three pieces follow a similar theme. People familiar with my work might be able to suss it out
beforehand.”
The Art SPLURGE is followed the next night, by Art SOCIAL where the process is repeated on
any remaining pieces. Because the venue is under renovation, the all events will be held at old Whitley
Printing building, at 301 Brazos Street in downtown Austin.
All proceeds from the event go to Arthouse's exhibitions and educational programs, which are always
free to the public. The exhibition and sale continues through May 16 during regular gallery hours.
