VALERIE WALDEN SELECTED FOR INCLUSION IN AUSTIN PASTEL SOCIETY ANNUAL EXHIBITION
-- Internationally-Recognized Juror Picks the Best of Central Texas --
Austin, TX, February 6, 2008 – Valerie Walden is among the 30 Central Texas artists chosen for the Austin Pastel Society’s 2008 Show. Of the 126 competing entries, Ms. Walden’s work “Natural Suspense” from her Sunsets series was among the 50 finalists selected for display.
Ms. Walden noted, “I entered the exhibition for the first time this year. It’s exciting to have my work recognized by such a distinguished juror and accomplished artist as Judith Carducci.”
The juror, Judith Carducci of the American Pastel Society is recognized as one of today’s best portraitist. Her work has been featured in International Artists, Pastel Artists International, American Artist, Pastel Journal, The Artist’s Magazine and books such as Best of Portrait Painting, Paint! Portrait and Figure, and Beautiful Things. Her paintings reside in collections throughout the US and Europe.
The Austin Pastel Society Annual Exhibition will be held at the Chase Bank Building at 7th and Lavaca streets, in a special gallery: Corridor of Art, from March 3 – May 3, 2008. It features landscapes, still life’s and portraits in a range of pastel techniques. It is open to the public, free of charge during regular business hours.
The artists’ reception and awards ceremony will be held in the Corridor of Art, on Sunday, March 16 from 4:00-6:00 PM. Patrons are encouraged to attend. Ms. Walden will be present to discuss her work. “Natural Suspense” may be viewed here or on the Austin Pastel Society website.

About Valerie Walden Valerie Walden developed her talent with inspiration and guidance from artists and instructors at the Austin Museum of Art, University of Texas and the Scottsdale Artists’ School. She works primarily in pastels and in watercolor, but has occasionally been known to mix the two. Her work draws heavily upon her interpretations and impressions of nature. She is a member of the Austin Visual Arts Association, the Waterloo Watercolor Society, Austin Pastel Society and the Southwest Pastel Society.
