AUSTIN PASTEL SOCIETY MEMBER EXHIBITION
AWARDS HONORABLE MENTION TO VALERIE WALDEN
-- 'Miniature' Show at Scarbrough Building Through July 19 --
Austin, TX, June 23, 2009 – Valerie Walden is among the members featured in the Austin Pastel
Society's Miniature Show, June 21-July 19 at the historic Scarbrough building in downtown Austin.
The size of artwork on display is limited -- nothing larger than 8 inches by 10 inches unframed.
Two pastels from Ms. Walden's All Natural Series will be included: 'Searching' and 'This Bird Is A
Finch' Both feature native birds and measure the maximum 8 x 10 inches. 'Searching' was selected for
Honorable Mention designation by juror Susan Kemner Reed. Ms. Walden commented, "The Austin
Pastel Society is a strong organization and the Scarbrough building is a lovely setting. I know it will be an
interesting exhibition. Of course, I'm delighted that my painting has been honored."
The Scarbrough building is located at the corner of 6th and Congress. The lobby at 101 W. 6th houses
the exhibit. Visitors are welcome during regular business hours and by appointment.

About Valerie Walden
Valerie Walden developed her talent with inspiration and guidance from artists and instructors at the
Austin Museum of Art, University of Texas, Leslie DeMille of the Scottsdale Artists’ School, and
renowned plein air artists Scott Christensen of Idaho and Bob Rohm of Texas . She works primarily in
pastels and oils. Her work draws heavily upon her interpretations and impressions of nature. She is a
member of the Austin Visual Arts Association, Austin Pastel Society, Southwest Pastel Society and
Plein Air Austin.

The Austin Pastel Society is a Non-Profit Organization founded in 1998 by a group of Austin artists
who were active in the soft pastel medium. APS’s mission is to provide members with opportunities to
exhibit their work at locations throughout the area and to educate the public, gallery owners and
