WALDEN'S ALASKA PAINTINGS CHOSEN FOR
AUSTIN VISUAL ARTS ASSN MEMBER SHOW JULY 17-AUG 7
Austin, TX, June 29, 2010 – A new painting by Valerie Walden will be included in the 2010 Austin
Visual Arts Association Member Show. The striking work titled “I Hear the Whistle Blowing”
features a dramatic, mountain-side train in Skagway, Alaska and measures 12 inches by 36 inches.
Fittingly, it is from her new Alaska Series that also features glaciers, and ocean scenes.
The exhibition runs July 17 through August 7, 2010 at the Studio2Gallery in South Austin. The show
encompasses landscapes, portraiture, figurative, still life, floral and animal paintings in a range of
mediums and techniques including abstract and representational pieces. It is open to the public, free of
charge during regular business hours. An opening Artists’ Reception is scheduled for Saturday, July
17, from 6:30-9:00 pm.
This year, the show was juried by Tina Weitz, owner of Studio2Gallery and Donna Crosby, artist and
Austin Visual Arts Association president.
Ms. Walden commented, “I’m pleased to be part of the annual show again this year. It’s like presenting
with your extended family. But, there is always some surprising new work.” Ms. Walden will be attending
Saturday’s reception to discuss “I Hear the Whistle Blowing” which may be found on her website.
