Artist's Statement
I believe that art should reflect emotion through the visual impact of the
work. It may be a soothing, subtle calming effect of water; or the arresting
jolt of aggressive color and gestures.

I am often struck by the juxtaposition of nature.
Ominous clouds over a resting sun, flat plains
before the rise of mountains, the eruption of rocks
from the cool ocean. My work is interpretive, not
photographic.
Instead of one single point of focus, I try to engage
the viewer in the scene, creating a unity of the
inherent contrasts through color and value.
Most recently I have begun painting en plein air so
that I become immersed in the scene and interpret
the composition through all my senses.
My work is adaptations of my personal experiences
or commissioned from photographs.
